English clubs and the European Competitions
English clubs
and the European competitions
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c5/Trofeo_UEFA_Champions_League.jpg
English clubs
have the privilege of being able to qualify for both the Champions league as well
as the Europa league. The premier league clubs that finish in the top four of
the division while the teams that finish fifth, sixth and seventh position all
get a Europa league place.
English clubs
have been largely successful in the Champions league. There have been ten
winner of European competitions. These clubs are Leeds Fc, Chelsea Fc,
Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, Aston Villa, Arsenal,
Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. Liverpool have won it more than any other English
club by winning it thirteen times.
One of the
most famous Champions league final nights was when Liverpool faced AC Milan of
Italy in Milan. Liverpool went three-nil down at half time, but a massive turn
around happened in the second half then they went on to win the famous cup on
penalties. This is one of the most widely known, famous nights in the history
of Champions League and is known as to football fans as ‘that night in Milan’.
Another famous
Champions League final night was when Chelsea faced Bayern Munich at the Allianz
Arena in Germany. Both teams failed to
score until fifteen minutes until full time when Bayern Munich scored in the
second half of the game but then Chelsea’s Didier Drogba scored with minutes to
go to make it go into extra time. Chelsea had an early scare in extra time when
they conceded a penalty but the keeper saved it. This brought them into extra
time where the Chelsea keeper Petr Cech was the hero when he saved three
penalties on their way to winning the European Competition.
The Championship Play-offs - The most expensive sporting event in the world
The most expensive football game in the world
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d4/View_from_Wembley_Way,_Playoff_Final_2012.jpg
The championship
play-offs are the most expensive sporting event in the world. This may be
surprising to most people who aren’t familiar with the championship play-offs. The
reason why the play-offs are so expensive is because of the chance to make it
to the premier league, they will make millions of pounds after winning the
play-offs due to the TV rights that TV channels pay millions per season to the
premier league and also if the new premier league team stays in the premier
league they will get a large amount of prize money.
They say
that the winning team will pocket over sixty million pounds the minute that the
final whistle will blow. This is because of the amount of people that watch the
match live on TV and also the full Wembly Stadium that is full with paying
fans. The clubs all get money from the ticket sales, merchandise and the prize
money that the clubs get for making it that far into the competition.
For the
losing team, they get considerably less money compared to the winning team. They
don’t get near as much money as the winner, this is due to the lack of prize
money that they get for getting into the play-off final due to them not winning
it. They also don’t get anywhere as near as much TV sponsorship money compared
to premier league clubs.
This is why
championship clubs take getting promoted and the play-offs so seriously due to the
financial gain as well as the challenge of competing in the highest division in
England.
The Premier League - 'The Big Four'
Premier league teams – ‘the big four’ title winners
47 teams have competed in the premier league since its
formation in 1992, but saying that only 6 clubs have won the premier league
since that time. This is due to the dominance of what people call ‘the big
four’. This is in relation to the four clubs that have dominated the league,
these clubs are Manchester United, Chelsea Fc, Liverpool Fc and Arsenal. These
clubs have won the premier league twenty-two times altogether with Manchester
United winning it a record 13 times. This has led to the dominance of the
premier league in twenty-two out of the last twenty-four seasons. These two
seasons that haven’t been won by ‘the big four’ have been a complete surprise
to the footballing world and have been described as fairy tales…
One of the most famous and most recent ‘fairy tales’ is when Leicester Fc won the premier league during the 2015/2016 season. This is remarkable due to Leicester struggling to stay in the league the season before. The reason why they won the league during the 2015/2016 season was due to their new manager investing money into their squad. Now if you look back to when Blackburn won the Premier League in the early nineties, they also invested money into their team. They bought a star striker in Alan Shearer who fired over 20 goals that season to win the title.
This investment is the reason why ‘the big four’ have been so successful in the highest division, they have invested mass amounts of money in top quality, foreign players that have improved their teams. These foreign players have improved on the lower quality English players that are usually used in lower teams in the premier league. You will notice that in the lower half of the premier league that there are more English players in their squads due to the lack of investment into the club, but this is also a good thing as it shows that these clubs value youth systems in England. This is great to see these smaller clubs are using these English players, like the English Football Association have been investing money into grassroots football.

Why the premier league is the best league in the world?
https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5475/12048957873_ab44dde9af.jpg
The premier league is the top tier of English football. It
is the elite league of England and is thought of as the best league in the
world by a host of people and nations around the world due to its high
competitiveness and the excitement around the premier league every time the
league is played. The premier leagues season runs from august to may each year.
They play 38 games each season usually playing one game a week but that can be
changed due to a clubs other commitments. Each team plays each other twice
throughout the season, once at home and once away from home. They play these
games throughout Christmas and winter which is very much different to other
major leagues around the world such as the Seria A in Italy and the La Liga
Santander in Spain. These two leagues stop playing football at the start of
December until after the New Year. This is to stop the pitch from deteriorating
beyond repair midway through the season. This adds to the love of English
football as it is played throughout the year and you don’t need to wait a month
between games.
The premier league is the most watched footballing league in
the world with a potential audience of around 4.7 billion people per week as
the premier league is available in 643 million homes in the world. This is one
of the reasons why the premier league is the world’s most profitable league in
the world due to its high match-day ticket costs and its very high television
revenue since both Sky TV and BT Sport payed large television fees for the
right to show these games live on TV.

Football in England
http://www.thefa.com/~/media/images/thefaportal/pillars/thefa/general/fa-crest-2009.ashx?w=620&h=349
Football is the worlds most popular sport. It is estimated that the football army is 250 million strong. the first game of contemporary football was played in 1863 in England. This happened after the rugby association branched off from football and this meant that they now had two separate committees. This allowed the football in England to blossom to the massive organisation the English FA is today.
The English FA is in charge of all footballing activities at a competitive level in England still to this day. They are the oldest national governing body of football in world football.
The FA were set up by what the English consider 'the father' of English football Ebenezer Morley in 1862. he came up with the idea of ''organising'' football after he set up a football club in a public school. There were lots of disagreements about how the game should be played and he suggested that a rule book should be introduced like the MCC did with cricket, another popular sport in England.
These views were taken up at a meeting in London where twelve London clubs met up to form an association that will make certain rules a code that all football clubs will follow to make football played as fairly as possible. one of the major sticking points in some of these meetings to make some of these rules was the issue of hacking in the game of football. this rule was debated by lots of people who agreed and disagreed with the issue of hacking of players legs. after much debate, the first FA football match was played between London clubs Richmond and Barnes where they played out a 0-0 draw. this is considered the first competitive game of football in the history of football.
England is home to one of the most competitive leagues in the world. the premier league was first played in the 1992-1993 season when it replaced the old football division one. the premier league is considered the best league in the world due to the millions of people who watch the matches each weekend.
